Nandi Hills- a weekend gateway

Nandi Hills- Tipu Sultan was believed to be climbing everyday on his horse. He built his Summer Palace here. Infamous also for Tipu’s drop, where it is believed that in Tipu’s administration, it was a place for punishing people by jeopardizing from here. It is another Nilgiris where long and tall eucalyptus trees are hiding the stories of love, sorrow and joy from centuries. Nandi Hills, Where Mahatma Gandhi stayed for a while in his South India visit. It is also place where Prime Ministers of SAARC countries visited and stayed here. In 1986 SAARC summit held in Bangalore. Mythology says it is one of the series of five hills called `Kushmanda Giri’. Others include Skandagiri, Dibbagiri and Brahmagiri. Trekkers can climb by taking steps from Sultan Pet. Nearest places of interest are Nandi Bhoganandeeshwara temple, Kanive Basavanna, Muddenahalli- birth place of Sir M.Vishweshvaraih. Nandi Hills is around 61 kms from Bangalore.
